Kirk Alyn - the Original Superman

When people think of the first actor who played Superman, their minds most of the time end up in the same name -- Critopher Reeves, who played Superman in the first MOVIE ADAPTATION of the comic books. however, it was Kirk Alyn who played a live action Superman for the first time in the Superman's 1948 TV Show.

Like many actors of that time, Alyn appeared in low budget films before making his TV impersonation of the Man of Steel. "The Girl who Dared", "Daughter of Don Q" and "the Trap" where the films that pushed into this now mythical role. When the series ended, he retired to Arizona and married, continuing to act playing small roles in movies such as "When worlds collide", "Beggining of the end" and even playing a part in the 1978 Superman movie, he appeared as the husband in the train.

Kirk Alyn passed away in March 14, 1999. He must always be remmebered as the first Superman.

Superman Returns EA Game

EA Tribune is working on a new Superman title to tie in with the 2006 release of Superman Returns.

Back in Feb. we started to see evidence that Electronic Arts was at work on a new Superman title. Even more interesting, the company was handing development to its Tiburon studio, which is otherwise known for the Madden franchise. From men of gridiron to a Man of Steel? Interesting idea.

Today, at least a few of our questions are answered. EA has officially announced Superman Returns, a game for current consoles -- and the Xbox 360 -- based on the coming movie from Warner Bros. The game, which will take its story from both the film and "60 years of comic book content," is slated to ship in conjunction with the movie, which premieres on June 30, 2006.

"We have assembled world class talent at EA Tiburon to deliver this blockbuster experience and we are thrilled to team up with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics and have the opportunity to demonstrate our creative and technological expertise in the action/adventure category," said EA Tiburon's Steven Chiang. "We are creating a game that allows players to experience a real sense of flying, and master Superman's unrivaled super hero powers in order to save Metropolis. Only Superman can meet challenges of this scale."

Superman Returns -- the film -- is directed by Brian Singer (X-Men) and stars Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane and Brandon Routh as the Man of Steel himself.

Want to know more? So do we. For right now, however, this is the most EA is revealing. We expect to hear more soon, and when we do, we'll be here to bring you the news. Stay tuned.

411 on Kevin Spacy as Lex Luthor

Wizard was kind enough to give an exclusive excerpt from actor Kevin Spacey about his role as Lex Luthor.

Kevin Spacey has a long history with Lex Luthor. Nearly nine years ago he was rumored for the role, targeted as director Tim Burton's choice to play Superman's nemesis, reprising the part that Gene Hackman had made so famous. But alas, Burton's project never came to fruition and years later, director Bryan Singer took over the project and who was his first choice to play the diabolical entrepreneur? His 'Usual Suspects' star Spacey.

So now that Spacey has finally nabbed the part of lead villain in the upcoming blockbuster film 'Superman Returns,' what's he have planned for Lex?

"To me, it's one of those great, iconic parts," Spacey exclusively told Wizard: The Comics Magazine, taking a break from tooling around the New Krypton set of the film in Sydney, Australia in a golf cart adorned with the Superman logo. "Bryan's been very attentive and respectful to the genre and what the fan base really wants, but he also brings a new direction to the character and how people deal with each other. This film is a much darker Lex than the Gene Hackman character. This is a bitter Lex. This is a Lex after a long time in prison. But there's still a lot of humor to it.

To hear more from Spacey about playing Luthor, pick up Wizard: The Comics Magazine on Wednesday, Dec. 21, an issue that features exclusive interviews with Spacey and Singer and an eight-page Q+A with star Brandon Routh and more. It's all part of a special 28-page 'Superman Returns' extravaganza in Wizard's 2006 Preview issue that runs down the top 118 things you need to know about 2006, including movies, comics, DVDs, toys and more. Pick it up Wednesday at your favorite comic store or visit Wizard

Leaked Superman Pictures Disappointing

After the images of the Super Return movie, hit the screens of poeple all over the world, the critic of fans has been...well...bad. It seems that people don't buy the idea of Routh as Superman.

"I'm so bummed about the photo," says Carl Gordon, who runs the website Supermansuperfan.com. "Routh just doesn't look all that convincing as Superman. It's so sad."

And, well, we'll have to agree to that. As I said before he looks more like a Superboy.

Taken from Dateline: Hollywood -

Insiders at Warner Bros. studio say director Bryan Singer is attempting to go for a more realistic approach with the movie.

"He may be Superman with super powers, but Bryan wants him to also look somewhat normal so the audience members who are out of shape can identity with him," says the insider. "I'm hoping his body structure will change once Superman starts absorbing energy from our sun."

Well....everybody's hoping.

Was Superman actor chosen by his looks?

Radar Online published an article where they suggest unknown 26 yer old actor Brandon Routh, was chosen to play Super's part due to an emotional (or lusty) decision by Bryan Singer.

This article came after Alex Burton, who played the part of Pyro on the X-Men 2 film said he was given the part after a hot-tub session with the director at a Hollywood party. And on top of that Parker Posey, who also stars on Superman Returns, puts things a little bit more complicated for this Superdude:

“Poor Brandon. He’s got everyone touching him all the time. He’s lying on his stomach and he’s got five people coming up and pulling his underwear down, sticking their hands up the butt of his suit. I can’t imagine what it’s like.”

Well folks, that were some news. You can read the rest of the article at Is Singer's Superman a loss For Lois?
